The Pays de Fayence stretches from Tanneron in the east (25 min by car), to Bagnols-en-Forêt in the south (40 min), to Seillans in the west (40 min), to Mons in the north (also 40 min). Other villages make up this community of communes. Their main characteristic is that they are perched, offering a series of landscapes, each one more beautiful than the last.
FAYENCE: The capital of the territory, it is a village in Provence with a traditional look. Built on the hillside, it is dominated by the Clock Tower from which you will discover a grandiose 360° panorama. We love its winding streets, its squares shaded by plane trees, and its stalls.
SEILLANS, one of the most beautiful villages in France: A village full of artists, it draws its charm from its cobbled streets and shady squares.
MONS, classified as a village of character: Perched at an altitude of 814m, it is the highest village in the Pays de Fayence. Its location offers a grandiose panorama: on a clear day, you can see Corsica from the Place St-Sébastien. The Chapel of Notre Dame de la Pitié (on the road to Callian) offers a splendid view of the village.
For the record, you will find the list of restaurants that we recommend in the page dedicated to this.
FREJUS (40 min by car)
Fréjus can boast of its 2000 years of history: it has preserved its heritage and done its best to highlight it. If you are passing through Fréjus, you must take the time to walk around the historic centre. Better yet, book a slot for a guided tour among those offered. There is one every day.
It is also a very dynamic city in terms of culture and sport. It offers a range of entertainment throughout the year. To name a few: in October, the Roc d'Azur and the international air festival, in July the live performance festival called the Nuits-Off , followed shortly by the Nuits Auréliennes theatre festival, etc.
If you want to enjoy the sun while strolling, the Port Fréjus district is a good starting point. In addition to the restaurants, it offers you the possibility, either to walk on the Fréjus beach side, where the market floods the main street on Sundays; or to head to Base nature, a friendly place when you have children. You will find many playgrounds, ping-pong tables, bike rental, etc.
On the nature side, Saint-Aygulf will charm you as much by its coasts as by its parks:
On the coast: We recommend the 2 walks of the customs path from the port of Saint-Aygulf. They are not very difficult but you have to be well shod and in good physical condition.
Parks:
Parc Aréca: shaded botanical garden, overlooking the sea. It also has a very nice children's playground.
Les Etangs de Villepey: a protected natural area in which it is pleasant to walk, rest or simply observe. Please note that it is not possible to go all the way around it (the path is cut off halfway through the route and requires you to turn around).
SAINT-RAPHAEL (45 min drive)
If seen from afar, Saint-Raphaël and Fréjus are often confused, these cities are very different.
Saint-Raphaël gives the impression of being more turned towards the sea, simply because its city centre is by the sea. This offers the advantage of enjoying the culture and pleasures of the sea in the same day.
The beaches: these are the ones that are similar to coves that catch our attention. You will find them along the coastal path that starts at the port of Santa Lucia. Others are easily accessible, either on foot from the city centre or by car by parking along the roads.
Sea trips: We especially like the AMC Cape Grace. This company has a fleet of several maxi-catamarans and offers trips along the Var coast for a day or for a few hours. When you don't have the budget to treat yourself to a private cruise, it's a good compromise, as a couple or as a family.
Walks and hikes:
Coastal path, accessible from the port of Santa Lucia. It has some tricky passages, you have to be in good shape and have good shoes.
Cap Dramont hike: easy 2-hour hike around Cap Dramont, magnificent view of the golden island.
Hike of the Aubert pond: Easy hike of less than 2 hours in the heart of the Massif de l'Estérel.
